Fundraising

The Need
As a result of district budget reductions, we are in the position of needing to raise significant money to support our teams. The school district pays the head coach's salary, maintenance of the pool, and is sometimes able to assist us with the purchase of electronic equipment.  Beyond that, the team pays for the assistant coaches, tournament fees, hotel rooms, referee fees, game equipment and balls, team suits, caps, team t-shirts, after-game meals and paper goods, memory books, parties, end of season banquet.etc. On average, our expenses run about $20,000/year.  During the 2016 water polo year our expenses were $21,397.

At the beginning of this 2017 year, we have a balance of $10,581.00.

2018 Fundraising Activities

In the past, we have had bottle/can drives and car washes which did not amount to much.  We decided last year to focus on three main fund-raising activities that have proven to be the most lucrative.

The Senior Bon Voyage Party Clean Up is a set amount of $1500 and works out best with about 20 underclassmen's parent volunteers.  The flower sale and the seat cushion install/removal program rely heavily on total team participation.

Last year was our best year for the flower sale.  Only about half the team made an effort to participate.  As in previous years, when we were doing carwashes we required the boys to sell $75 worth of tickets or buy themselves out, we will do the same this year with the flower sale, requiring a $75 buyout or a minimum of $75 in sales.

For the seat cushion program, last year we required 2 volunteer shifts or you could buy out for $100.  We will be doing the same this year.  In 2016 we had the highest amount of volunteer slots for the seat cushion program.  Many parents and students volunteered more than their required 2 shifts for the season. Each shift earns approximately $50.

These are all easy ways to make money if everyone does their part.

Senior Bon Voyage Party clean-up --formerly known as the All Senior All Night party-- begins at 3am as the party is winding down. We work until we're finished which is about 6am.  20 parents are needed (sorry, kids aren't allowed to participate in this one.)  If we can fill all positions, we can earn $1500.

Seat Cushion Installation and Sales at U-M Stadium

2019 Seat Cushions Fundraiser
at Michigan Stadium

Again this year, Pioneer athletic teams have a fantastic opportunity to earn MONEY to support their sport(s).

Parents & student athletes from all Pioneer teams are invited to participate in the Seat Cushions Fundraiser.  This is the biggest and best opportunity offered by the Big Boosters for your teams to earn money.  Sign up to volunteer and designate the sport of your choice to raise funds!

Hundreds of volunteers (parents & students) will be needed to work at Michigan stadium on several dates beginning in August and running through November.  The BEST, most plentiful opportunities to raise funds are in AUGUST, when the bulk of the work needs to be done.  Weekend work days are planned for August 17th, 18th, & 25th, possibly August 24th.  Watch for emails from your team’s Booster Club Representative for details about the project, including volunteer guidelines and sign-up information.  Help from every sport is strongly encouraged, and again, YOU EARN MONEY FOR YOUR TEAM(S)!

In addition to the big seat cushion installation days in August, we will also need some workers on the Thursday before Labor Day (August 29th), Fridays before Michigan home games, and at the games on Saturdays.  Details about those work sessions will be available in late August.

The Pioneer Booster Club organizes these work parties on 7 home-game weekends throughout the U-M Football season. Last year, the Booster Club had $30,000 to parcel out to Pioneer sports teams who volunteered to install/de-install seat cushions, audit placements, and provide customer service during home football games.  During the 2016 season, our team earned approximately $3950.00. Broken down further, we earned about $50 each time a person volunteered. This year there are even more seat cushions to install and our coffers are thin, so we are hoping to make this one of our biggest fundraisers. Please help us take advantage of this opportunity by volunteering with your student for multiple shifts throughout the season.  The Booster Club will let us know when we can sign up, but the dates and times can be found here.

Fall Flower Sales Last year we were able to build on this successful fundraiser by encouraging a broader outreach to our community possibly by utilizing a neighborhood email group or old-fashioned door-to-door sales. Orders for the 2019 year will be due on Saturday, September 7th and orders will be available for pickup at the Pioneer parking lot on Sunday, September 15th.
